olive green back; flanks golden to silvery white ventrally; a series of black spots on the top of the flanks.

Geographical distribution

Eastern Atlantic (from the south of the United Kingdom to Mauritania, sometimes as far as Senegal), Mediterranean, Black Sea.

Bathymetric distribution

migratory pelagic living in coastal waters between 10 and 100 m, or even beyond (300 m).

Fishing

spinning nets, gillnets, beach seines.

Good fishing season

cold season from October.

Commercial interest

could be important.
